General information

History

First historic traces of this Amazonian nut date back to 1570. At that time, a Spanish colonel named Juan Álvarez Maldonado, heard about the Brazil nuts and their many nutritional benefits and it impelled him to start harvesting this nut to feed to his troops. In 1633, the first commercial exchanges began between Brazil and the Netherlands. 

In 1866, the Amazonian river was open for business commute which opened the door to mass exportation and became a vital income for local farmers in the area. Today, the Brazil nut is one of the most important exported items in the area.

Culinary Uses

Brazil nuts are excellent when eaten raw of with a little salt. Grind them up and pair it with a little orange juice to make a new kind of couscous. The recipe has been created by Stéfano Faita on the Kampaï television show!

Preservation
